Actress Cha Ye-ryun denied allegations that she was involved in school bullying, with her agency issuing a statement Wednesday to reiterate that the claims were groundless.

In a statement, HB Entertainment said it had previously made clear that allegations concerning the actress's past circulating online were "entirely untrue."

"Unverified claims and speculation made anonymously continue to spread repeatedly," the agency said, adding that it would take strong legal action to prevent further damage caused by the spread of false information.

The controversy began when an online post circulated alleging that an actress born in 1985 had been a perpetrator of school violence. Although the post did not identify the actress by name, it included her birth year and former school, leading internet users to point to Cha.

Cha made her debut in 2005 with the horror film "Whispering Corridors 4: Voice" and has since appeared in a number of hit Korean dramas, including "Royal Family" and "Gracious Revenge."
